Our Department is continuing to
grow in new and exciting ways. We would like to share some of our achievements and plans with you.
Through our commitment to improving health, with excellence in image-based patient
care, research and education. we are achieving continuous improvement to the services provided to the community of
Peterborough.
Welcome to our web site which is dedicated to
the propagation and dissemination of information about the technology, patient care activities and educational
programs that are part of the life of the modern diagnostic radiology department facing the challenges of change in
the new millennium at Peterborough.
Our imaging and interventional services rank with the best in the nation (Keele
Benchmarking report 1998-2000) and we provide services in General imaging, interventional procedures, Ultrasound,
MRI, CT scanning, Breast Imaging and Nuclear
Medicine.
Our mission has evolved with the changes in the technical, political and clinical
environments in recent years, requiring us to continually reassess all aspects of our radiographic practice. We
believe that all radiographers are independent practitioners who in partnership with the
Trust
have realised our objectives, and meet the ever-increasing demands that are intrinsic to a district general
hospital.
The training and development of our staff is integral to our continuing success enabling
them to carry forward the tradition of excellence that has been established at
Peterborough
Hospitals NHS Trust.

This service is based at the Edith Cavell site, in a
purpose built unit. A GE Signa Infinity 1.5T scanner with music system
and upgraded processor has recently been installed.
This service is based at Peterborough District Hospital.
The machine was purchased in 1995 and on installation was the first of its kind in Europe. It replaced a
9-year-old charity purchased unit and enabled the department to provide rapid, detailed ‘Spiral’ scanning.
The service is available 9 hours a day for booked
patients & also provides a 24-hour service for emergencies.
In January 1999 a dual headed gamma camera replaced a 15
year old single headed unit at the district hospital site.

In Peterborough screening began in July
1989. The screening unit consists of an Assessment Centre and a mobile unit which was donated by the Cancer
Treatment Appeal fund.Symptomatic mammography is performed in the ECH Assessment Centre or at PDH.
The Breast Screening Service has
continued on the exact same schedule since starting in 1989 thus keeping recall appointments to the required
36 months .
Breast clinics continue at PDH with a
dedicated processor installed to enable films to be processed on site and assessed for technical
quality, and a report issued before the next clinic appointment. (i.e. Within 1 week).
This service is based at the Peterborough district
hospital sites and is staffed 24 hours a day and provides the radiology service to the city’s casualty unit.
The service consists of two main radiographic room and an 'overhead gantry system' in resus.
This service is based in the Sutton wing of the District
Hospital and is a two-roomed dedicated oral surgery X-ray unit; linked to a well-recognised center of
excellence for Facio-maxillary surgery.
