Mitchell Summers How and where did radiology get invented?

Kevin Button I find that some radiologists just agree to anything if they know the doctor well and don't bother questioning it. If we irradiate because a doctor says so then are we in breach of IRMER or is it justified because of the radiologist's superior knowledge?
Webmaster It will all depend on your departments definition of the Operator / Practitioner / Referrer thing of IRMER. If you are only classed as an operator (not what we should be by the way) then you are allowed to expose because the radiologist is the practitioner and therefore the decision maker. If you are designated as the practitioner too then this will be a breach of IRMER. However IRMER becomes increasingly difficult to interpret when you factor in that we need the knowledge to make these justifiable decisions but end up with radiologists sometimes refusing to share their knowledge

I've recently had an MRI scan at ECH.  The information leaflet requests that no eye make-up be worn - can you tell me why?

Webmaster Depending on the constitution of the make-up, some make-up's (especially mascara) use ferromagnetic materials as the basis of the dark pigment. This can cause distortion of the magnetic field and disrupt the image obtained in some cases preventing a scan being performed. There is also a possibility of there being stimulation of the eyelids during the scan.
